I have to admit I think I actually missed working out when I was sick. It's hard to believe since I hate exercise, but it's true. It's part of my routine and I know it's good for me. When I finally got back to the gym an odd thing occurred to me. As I looked around the normally semi-crowded gym there was NOT one person on the treadmills. Just me. Now, I go at the same time on the same days every week and the fifteen-ish treadmills are never totally empty. But on this day all the treadmills were empty and all of the bikes were full!
It was very strange, it was like everyone was boycotting the treadmills. Five minutes into my session I started to get nervous. Had I missed a sign posted somewhere "Please! Do not use treadmills for your own safety! They are all malfunctioning!" Dag, that would be embarrassing. I'm a stickler for reading all pertinent signage in my surroundings and I'd hate to end up in the hospital due to an avoidable incident. I looked around and didn't see any signs or caution tape. Mine seemed to be working fine, except for the sketchy closed captioning that gets stuck on a few words, but that happens on almost all the machines there.
My next thought was: Had there been some sort of contamination? Had someone with Mono or Ebola virus sneezed on all the treadmills and they were highly contagious until cleaned?! But there would've been a sign for that and I didn't think the bikes were far enough away that people would've been cool sitting that close if Ebola were in the room.
These thoughts really only passed lightning quick through my semi-awake brain, I didn't give them any serious consideration. But I did think it was super weird. Ten minutes later two other ladies hopped on the treadmills and all my fears were relieved. I was going to take a picture of all the empty machines but I waited too long. So now you'll just have to take my word for it I guess.
